Tree & Booms is a one-room studio in Charlottesville, VA built around a simple idea: great music happens when an artist feels safe and inspired enough to take a real risk. Producer, mixer, and musician Matt Wyatt works directly and intentionally with every artist – whether it’s a single mix or a full production – in a space that feels more like a well-equipped living room than a commercial facility.
The Room
Tree & Booms is an acoustically treated, 700 square foot room with 14’ ceilings and a classic collection of vintage amps, keyboards, and other instruments. The signal path is hybrid analog-digital – including vintage Neve preamps, Burl converters, Inward Connection summing, Tube-Tech, Highland Dynamics, and Retro tube compressors and equalizers – pulled together over years of studio work, selected for warmth and depth of tone. Session musicians are available as needed.
Recording & Production
If you’re tracking at Tree & Booms, collaboration often happens through production, arrangement input, co-writing, and/or session musician direction. Or sometimes a project just needs an engineer to get out of the way and record. That’s ok too. Recording and production rates are shaped around your specific project rather than a fixed day rate.
Mixing
Whether recorded in-house, with your home setup, or at another studio, your mix will be finished by a mixer with musician’s ears working for a hi-fi sound through boutique analog gear. Some projects just need a clean and compelling mix. Others want more back-and-forth, talking through song arrangement, sound design, or creative direction along the way. Rates and turnaround time depend on the scope of the project. Link to examples of recent mix work here.

LOCATION
The studio is located in a wooded setting 3 miles (6 or 7 minute drive) from downtown Charlottesville, VA.
